Terms of Service
Effective Date: April 20, 2025 · Last Updated: April 20, 2025
Please read these terms carefully. By accessing or using Nuru or the Nuru Wallet, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use our services. These terms contain critical limitations on our liability and important disclosures about self-custody risk.
01Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Nuru ("Nuru," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the Nuru platform, the Nuru AI guide, the Nuru Wallet application, and all related services (collectively, the "Services").
By downloading, installing, or using any part of our Services, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms, and agree to be bound by them in their entirety.
02Nature of the Service — Guide, Not Advisor
Nuru is an AI-powered informational guide — not a financial advisor, investment advisor, legal advisor, or licensed broker. Nothing Nuru says, suggests, displays, or generates constitutes financial, investment, legal, tax, or professional advice of any kind.
Nuru is designed to help you understand identity systems, decentralized finance concepts, blockchain technology, and the Alkebuleum ecosystem. All content provided by Nuru — including explanations, summaries, recommendations, and data — is for general informational and educational purposes only.
You should not make financial, legal, or investment decisions based solely on information provided by Nuru. Always consult a qualified and licensed professional before making financial or legal decisions. Past performance of any asset is not indicative of future results. Cryptocurrency and digital asset markets are highly volatile and speculative.
Nuru does not predict markets, guarantee returns, or recommend specific trades, tokens, or investment strategies. Any examples shown within the Nuru interface are illustrative only.
03Self-Custody — You Control Your Keys
Nuru never has access to your private keys, seed phrases, master keys, or wallet credentials — ever. We cannot view them, recover them, reset them, or act on your behalf without your explicit cryptographic authorization. You are the sole custodian of your keys and your funds.
The Nuru Wallet is a self-custodial wallet. This means:
- Your private keys and seed phrase are generated and stored locally on your device.
- Nuru's servers never receive, store, or transmit your private keys or seed phrase in any form.
- No Nuru employee, agent, or system can access your wallet, move your funds, or recover your credentials.
- You bear full, sole, and exclusive responsibility for the security and safeguarding of your private keys, seed phrase, master key, and wallet credentials.
Your Responsibilities
You must protect your private keys and seed phrase at all times. This includes but is not limited to:
- Writing down your seed phrase on physical paper and storing it in a secure, private location.
- Never entering your seed phrase or private key into any website, application, or system other than your Nuru Wallet.
- Never sharing your seed phrase, private keys, or wallet credentials with any person or entity — including anyone claiming to be Nuru support.
- Ensuring your device is secured with a strong PIN, password, or biometric lock.
- Using updated operating system and application software to minimize security vulnerabilities.
If your private key or seed phrase is lost, stolen, or compromised, Nuru has no ability to restore access to your wallet or recover your funds. Loss of your keys means permanent, irreversible loss of access to all assets held in that wallet.
04Recovery Guardians — Optional Feature, No Guarantees
The Nuru Wallet includes an optional Recovery Guardian feature powered by the ERC-4337 smart account architecture. This feature is entirely voluntary. You are not required to set up guardians to use the Nuru Wallet.
What Guardians Are
Recovery Guardians are trusted contacts — people or devices you designate — who may assist in a wallet recovery process under specific contractual conditions defined by your smart account's on-chain logic. Guardians do not hold your funds or keys; they hold a cryptographic role in a multi-party recovery scheme.
Critical Limitations of the Guardian System
Recovery Guardians are not a guaranteed recovery mechanism. Nuru makes no representation, warranty, or promise that the Guardian system will successfully recover your wallet under any circumstance. The system's outcome depends entirely on the logic encoded in your smart account contract at the time of deployment.
You must understand and accept the following limitations before enabling guardians:
- If your master key (private key / seed phrase) is compromised — meaning a malicious actor already controls it — guardians have limited or no ability to prevent that actor from draining your funds before any recovery threshold is reached. Smart contract recovery processes are time-delayed by design, but a compromised master key may allow an attacker to act before guardians can intervene.
- The recovery process depends on your guardians being available, willing, and able to respond in the required timeframe. Nuru has no control over your guardians' actions or availability.
- Smart contract bugs, network congestion, gas costs, or blockchain forks could affect the execution or outcome of a recovery transaction.
- Guardian recovery operates on-chain. Transactions are irreversible once confirmed. Errors in the recovery process cannot be undone.
- Nuru does not manage, verify, or supervise your guardians. You are solely responsible for selecting trustworthy guardians and maintaining those relationships.
The Guardian feature is a supplementary safeguard, not a replacement for proper key security. Your first and most important line of defense is protecting your master key. Do not rely on guardians as a substitute for secure key management.
05Smart Contract and Blockchain Risk
The Nuru Wallet relies on smart contracts deployed on the Alkebuleum blockchain network. By using the wallet, you acknowledge and accept the following risks:
- Smart contract risk: Smart contracts may contain bugs, vulnerabilities, or unforeseen logic errors. Nuru audits its contracts to the best of its ability but cannot guarantee they are free of defects.
- Irreversibility: Blockchain transactions, once confirmed, are permanent and cannot be reversed, altered, or cancelled. Always verify transaction details before signing.
- Network risk: Blockchain networks may experience downtime, forks, congestion, or protocol changes that affect the availability or behavior of the wallet.
- Gas fees: Transactions on any blockchain network require network fees ("gas") that fluctuate based on network demand. Nuru does not control or subsidize these fees except where explicitly stated.
- Regulatory risk: The regulatory landscape for digital assets and blockchain technology is evolving. Laws in your jurisdiction may restrict or prohibit certain activities available through the Nuru Wallet.
06Prohibited Activities
You agree not to use the Services for any of the following:
- Any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international laws or regulations.
